Argentina finished runners-up at the 2026 World Cup. Spain won the final 1–0 after extra time at MetLife Stadium, with a Ferran Torres goal in the 106th minute.

There were no goals in ninety minutes. Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second booking in added time, and Argentina played extra time with ten men. Ferran Torres scored a minute into its second half.

It was Argentina’s second World Cup final in a row. The shirt still carries three stars, for 1978, 1986 and 2022. The crowd was 80,663.

In Australia the final kicked off at 5:00 am on Monday 20 July, Sydney and Melbourne time. SBS says 5.26 million Australians watched some of it, more than any World Cup match in the broadcaster’s history.
