Three things to know

  1. The name honours Father Lorenzo Massa, the priest who let local kids play in his church yard to keep them away from the trams. He insisted it stood for Saint Lawrence and the Battle of San Lorenzo.
  2. The club lost its home ground in Boedo in 1979. In May 2026 it signed the deal that returned the last piece of the old site, 47 years on.
  3. The late Pope Francis was a lifelong fan and a card-carrying member. San Lorenzo won its first Copa Libertadores in 2014, a year after he became Pope.
